Four Counties Garden Club revitalizes the

Physic Garden at the Pennsylvania Hospital

Philadelphia forefathers, including Benjamin Franklin, designed the current campus of the Pennsylvania Hospital.  Their plan included a Physic garden to grow medicines to help heal the sick.  The garden was never built until in 1976, when members of Philadelphia garden clubs decided to make this a bicentennial project.  Cecily Clark, led the charge to transform tennis courts, with fellow members of Four Counties Garden Club at her side, into the gardens our ancestors intended.

As part of its Centennial celebration, Four Counties plans to work with the hospital to revise signage to the garden.

Four Counties Garden Club supports T&E Cares each year.

The mission of T&E Cares is to maintain a network of people providing financial and other material assistance to persons in need in and around the Tredyffrin and Easttown township area in Chester County. For the past several years, Four Counties Garden Club has made 40-50 holiday centerpieces to provide families receiving support from T&E Care some joy at the holidays. In exchange, FCGC members receive a yummy lunch and holiday camaraderie

Four Counties Garden Club partners with Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital Horticultural Therapy Program.

The Horticultural Therapy Program at Bryn Mawr Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Main Line Health, gives patients the opportunity to contribute to their recovery in a natural and calming environment. This program not only provides physical and cognitive benefits to patients but it helps those in our community who are in need of fresh produce. In this process, patients sow the seeds, plant the seedlings in the garden, and  harvest and weigh the produce. The produce, organized by the patients to be picked up, goes to local food banks and other community organizations such as Urban Tree and Home of the Sparrow in Philadelphia.
